  • Day 1

    Depart London, arriving in Reykjavik. Collect the car at Keflavik airport. Continue along the south coast to Hveragerdi or Selfoss. (100km)


  • Day 2

    Visit the impressive Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot spring area, home to the famous Strokkur geyser, and explore Thingvellir National Park. (B) (210km)


  • Day 3

    Travel through the area where the Eyjafjallajokull volcano erupted in 2010 and visit Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls, stop to search for puffins at Dyrholaey and stroll along the black beach in Vik. (B) (285km)


  • Day 4

    Explore Skaftafell National Park. Enjoy a glacier walk or spend the day hiking to the numerous attractions in the park. (B) (50km)


  • Day 5

    Drive to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon and take an optional boat tour amongst the icebergs. Continue to Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajokull and onwards to the town of Egilsstadir. (B) (385km)


  • Day 6

    Explore Lake Lagarfljot, drive to the large dam at Karahnjukar and hike to Hengifoss waterfall. (B) (195km)


  • Day 7

    Cross the highland mountain pass, Modrudalsoraefi and stop for homemade waffles at the mountain café Fjalladyrd. Enjoy the surrounding vista before continuing to Iceland’s most powerful waterfall, Dettifoss. (B) (165km)


  • Day 8

    Explore Myvatn, an area known for its spectacular geology, geothermal heat and the large number of ducks nesting by the lake. Discover pseudo craters at Skutustadir, lava formations at Dimmuborgir and enjoy a soak in the Myvatn Nature Baths. (B) (80km)


  • Day 9

    Drive to Husavik, a fishing town close to the Arctic Circle. From here it is possible to spot whales in the fjord. Visit Godafoss waterfall en route to Akureyri. (B) (145km)


  • Day 10

    Drive through fishing town’s Dalvik and Olafsfjordur, then through the new tunnel to Siglufjordur. Continue around the peninsula and on to the small town of Hofsos for a dip in the local pool. (B) (175km)


  • Day 11

    Head to Snaefellsnes Peninsula and cross the Laxardalsheidi heath to the Haukadalur valley to visit a replica of a Viking farm. (B) (260km)


  • Day 12

    Hike along the coast from Arnarstapi to Hellnar, stop for a break at the friendly coffee house Fjoruhusid and drive around the tip of the peninsula. (B) (175km)


  • Day 13

    Drive to Reykjavik and spend the afternoon exploring the Icelandic capital. (B) (175km)


  • Day 14

    Return the car to Keflavik airport and fly to the UK. (B) (50km)
